Narrative writing

For writing we learned about narrative writing. We are writing it because what are getting ready for the speech compitition and the manaikalani film festival.

First I did a plan to write my story. My story is all about drinks and If I finished it then I can do the next task.

The next task was to write what is going to happen in my story and make a backround of it.

Lastly I went of and wrote my story.

I enjoyed doing this task. What I did well was do the story. I need to improve on is writing properly.

About James Watt

James Watt was born on 19th January 1736 in Greenock United Kingdom. He is well known for his improvement in steam engines – he is a mechanical engineer and also a physicist, mathematician and many other things.

For inquiry we learned about different scientists. The scientist I chose was James Watt because he is one of the most famous engineers in the world.  First I did a jamboard and answered the questions about what I think a scientist does. Next I did the task. The task was to write a profile of any scientist so I did James Watt and what you read above is everything I found out.

I enjoyed doing this task. What I did well was the jamboard. I need to improve on choosing a better scientist.

Hungry Wave

For reading we are continuing The Hungry Wave. We made our own sentence that relates to the story and made a DLO out of it.

First I went with my reading group on the floor and we talked about the keywords you will find in the book like clattering. stomping. crashing and many more. We also commented and answered the questions. The mood I was trying to make the reader feel is terrified and scary.

Next I went off and did the task. There was heaps of sentences that are unfilled and we have to fill in the spaces with a word that makes the reader feel a certain way. I also wrote what I saw, heard, felt, taste, and smelt in the book.

Lastly I copied and paste my scentences into a google drawing and drawed some pictures to go with the sentences.

I enjoyed doing this task. What I did well was the pictures. I need to improve on spelling.

 

Expectations for Swimming

For PB4L we learned about swimming expectations to remind us of the rules we need to follow to go swimming.

First we did a Jamboard and we answered at least two questions.

Next I went off and wrote a swimming expectations DLO.

Lastly I did a reminder to remind myself where and when to be there.

I enjoyed doing this task. What I did well was swimming expectation. I need to improve on my swimming reminder card.

 

Swimming in Week 1

On Thursday we went to the pools to participate in some swimming lessons. We got changed into our togs and swam for a while.

First we went on the bus and got into the boys changing room and got change.

Next we went with our swimming instructor and we did a test to see how good our swimming was and I was in the kind of confident group.

Lastly I got out of the pool, got changed and went back to school.

I enjoyed swimming. What I did well was lay back and swim. I need to improve on not being scared of the deep.

Science Words and Their Definitions

For inquiry we learned about science.  First we talked about what we think makes a good scientist.  Then we had to find definitions.  We had to search up what these scientific words mean.

First I went on the mat and watched a video and answered these questions to get Dojo points.

Next I went off and wrote what these scientific words mean.

Lastly I checked with a teacher and blogged.

I enjoyed doing this task. What I did well was answer the questions. I need to improve on finding the definitions.

Hungry Wave

For reading we learned about a story called the Hungry Wave. I was with a partner and we had to make a decision about words that we don’t know the meaning of.

First I went on the mat and read the book together with my group.

Next I went off and did a task with my partner.

Lastly I went off and did an induvidual task on our own and blogged it.

I enjoyed doing this task. What I did well was read the book. I need to improve on paying attention.

 

 

Written Algorithm

For math we learned about written algorithm. Written algorithm is solving numbers that can be 20 digits long in a fun but interesting way.

First I went on the mat and learned how to do it the long way and the short way.

Next I went of and did the task when was to solve three digit numbers in the long way.

Lastly me and my partner Armani had a race. We had to write hard numbers in written algorithm and the first person to get it then the other person has to take a picture of the persons work who have that won the race.

I enjoyed doing this task. What I did well was write the algorithum. I need to improve on racing.

 

Narrative Elements

For writing we learned about Narrative Elements. The manaikalani schools are making movies for the manaikalani film festval and we are all going to see movies from other schools in panmure.

First I watched a video. The video talked about the five elements in a movie or script. The five elements or theme, plot, setting, character and conflict.

Next I did a kahoot. It was about the video and I was in 3rd place and I got 6 dojo points.

Lastly I did the main task which was to write about the 5 story elements in a movie so I did The Lorax.

The five story elements are

Characters are the who of the story

Setting is the where and when of the story.

The plot is the what of the story

Conflict is the why of the story.

Theme is the message of the story

I enjoyed doing this task. What I did well was do the kahoot. I need to improve on listening to the video.
